buona buona, per me meglio anche dei canederli, è uno dei piatti che prendo sempre quando capito in trentino o alto adige, Robert è un buongustaio ;-)) stasera mi prendo la staffetta da Brii e domani mattina parto con la C, bacione one!!


This is such a hearty soup from a region unknown to me in Italy. There is so much to see or do there that it has been a challenge deciding on where to go.

Is hull-less barley the same as hulled barley? I have only used hulled and pearl barley before.

After seeing your post appear last night, we've returned again today to revisit it, because this barley soup just sounds so delicious! It's raining in Minneapolis today - a perfect day to put a pot of soup on the stove.

Hi Carol. Hull=less and hulled barley are whole grain, so they are more nutritious.

Hi tigerfish and thanks for your question. I added a note at the end of the post to clarify the difference between the two.

Dear Frank, the solution is to live in the Bay Area or elsewhere along the California coast, where chilly evenings can happen in the summer as well (and usually do), so then a bowl of hot soup is not only justified but absolutely necessary.

Totally recommended to warm up your body and soul in rainy Minneapolis. Maybe the next time I make it, I will use colorful beans, so it becomes even more cheerful. It's rainy here too and so a bit of color is welcome.

Looks wonderful, a nice warm soup is perfect for apres ski! I also have a problem finding recipe books for this region of Italy - my blog focuses solely on Northeastern Italy, which has amazing food, but tends to be a bit overlooked! Canderli, gnocchi, goulash, sauerkraut, lots of apple desserts, polenta, trout.

Move over to Friuli, and use your barley in a great orzotto, a barley risotto.
